My father is a CPA, as was my husband’s father. We were both being taught financial principles basically from day one, and we’re both grateful for this almost every day, especially these days. And my heart breaks for all the people out there who don’t understand basic financial or economic principles. Like all the people who think that the COVID vaccines were actually free, or who think that student debt can actually be “cancelled.” It’s tragic and makes them easy targets for government manipulation. If they don’t understand basic financial principles, then they can be easily misled by carefully crafted narratives and tricky language. But every so often, someone tips their hand and proves that they know exactly what they’re doing. Props to Cardi B for being that person today.
I am not a Cardi B fan generally, mostly because of her incredibly vulgar content, like when she simulated a lesbian orgy on a massive prop bed on live TV that was piped into millions of American homes. Or like just the other day when she was pouring water on her basically naked self and simulating masturbation on stage. Yeah, I’m just not a fan of that. BUT, I HAVE to give her props for her financial savvy. This woman not only knows how to get rich, but how to STAY rich. And those are two very different things. She understands financial principles and has implemented very strict financial rules in her life which have clearly bolstered her immense successes. In a short video she posted (included below) complaining about food prices, Cardi tips her hand and shows exactly how financially savvy she is. I just assumed she had a rocking financial manager, which she likely does. But she clearly knows what she’s doing. She says,
“I get a summary of the money that’s being spent in my home every week.”
Y’all, that is HUGE!! And not only is she GETTING those weekly summaries of expenditures, she’s actually ANALYZING them and is able to recognize changing patterns in those expenditures. Those 15 words right there garnered her more respect from me than all her chart-topping music. That right there is one of the most fundamental financial principles for financial success–know what you’re spending your money on and how much is being spent. Do YOU know your weekly household expenditures? If you don’t, make that a new year resolution because it will improve your finances. Most of America does NOT know their weekly expenditures.
She very astutely points out the massive financial literacy chasm that exists between GETTING rich and STAYING rich. She says that people keep asking her why she’s concerned about the rising cost of living, especially food prices, when she’s so rich. As though she shouldn’t care because she has a lot of money. Y’all, a lot of rich people are only rich BECAUSE they care about how much money they’re spending. They keep meticulous track of their expenditures, they choose cheaper options, and they shop around for better prices. They don’t just go hog wild because they have some money, which is what leads to numerous lottery winners going bankrupt after winning huge amounts of money. And a lot of people who consistently make a lot of money AREN’T rich because they DON’T keep track. They can GET rich, but they don’t know how to STAY rich.
Here’s the video clip, which is riddled with expletives, so viewer discretion advised.
Cardi B has more financial sense than anyone in the Biden administration or the Fed. Food prices are out of control. pic.twitter.com/8GXlyTRhTL
