I’m not a McCarthy fan. I would not prefer him to be the Speaker of the House. I know not everyone feels the same way I do, about him or the Speakership proceedings, but I believe McCarthy got too big for his britches and needed to be brought down a few notches. I mean, the man literally MOVED INTO THE SPEAKER’S OFFICE preemptively because he truly believed everyone would obediently fall in line and vote the way they were ‘supposed’ to vote. But that doesn’t work anymore. That Establishment system is broken and there are Americans who are tired of continuing to use that broken Establishment system. So I haven’t been concerned by the struggle to elect a Speaker of the House. I actually see it as our democratic republic hard at work. This is very literally the way it was designed to work. It’s right there in the Federalist Papers. A few days of back and forth to decide the Speaker of the House doesn’t seem all that worrisome to me, and I think it’s important for whomever becomes the Speaker (likely McCarthy) to realize that they have to WORK for the American people and EARN their support. They aren’t entitled to it based on their being an Establishment politician.
That being said, it’s also time to go ahead and elect a Speaker of the House and start getting things done. Today, after the 11th vote failed, the media bombarded Kevin McCarthy with questions. They were hoping he’d get angry and say awful things about his fellow Republicans and confirm all the accusations that the GOP is a circus full of clowns. But he did not do that.
I have to give props where props are due–McCarthy’s comments in response to the media questions were very good. He didn’t make threats against fellow Republicans who aren’t supporting him. He corrected questions about him having made threats to strip fellow Republicans of committee positions in retaliation. He didn’t act exasperated or angry that the process is ongoing. He didn’t try to trash his fellow Republicans who currently oppose him. He didn’t throw out ultimatums, specifically saying, “I’m not putting any timeline on it.”
He did expressed optimism for progress being made and unity achieved through cooperation and constructive discussion. And he even managed to insert a little levity into the stressful situation by making a joke about how he likes to “make history” in Congress. Here are the clip.

What “things?” Are you confident that the “things” that will “get done” are “things” you’ll approve of, once they’re “done?” I’d rather prolong the Congressional paralysis, myself. It means a pause in the federal intrusions into my life.
I don’t remember who said it, but hearken unto a bit of wisdom: “No man’s life, liberty, or property are safe when the legislature is in session.” Whoever he was, he had a better sense for what governments really do than 99.9% of all Americans, past or present.
