Mock and I have been talking about the declining state of medicine lately, mainly because we’re getting older, and we’ve noticed that doctors are getting crappier and crappier. In Texas? I’ve had two main struggles since moving here – finding a decent hairdresser and finding decent doctors. Healthcare here is like a third-world country, and that’s not hyperbole. It’s pretty bad, especially in and around the Waco area. I usually have to drive to either Austin or Dallas/Ft. Worth to get semi-quality healthcare, and even then, it’s a gamble. I’m certain a lot of it has to do with the fact that Covid saw many great doctors and nurses get laid off because of vaccine mandates, and a great deal of those folks never came back, leaving a void in the system. A lot of these once-well-run waiting rooms now resemble war zones.
Add in the mix that medical schools are being run by progressive liberals, who believe that climate change is of great importance to the curriculum – you know, rather than Actual Medicine – and we’re witnessing the dumbing down of medicine.
No one should be surprised that they’re basing entrance into medical school NOT on merit, but rather on the color of people’s skin. SURPRIIIIISE. Progressivism strikes again. Only this time, a white student is fighting back:
A white male student has sued six Texas medical schools that rejected him for admissions but allegedly admitted other students — namely students of color and women — who had lower MCAT scores.
Unfortunately, he was denied this opportunity while over 450 lesser qualified minority students, ranging as low as a GPA of 2.82 or an MCAT of 495, were offered admission.’
Yikes.
After he was rejected, he filed an open records request and “obtained the race, sex, grade-point average, and MCAT score data for every applicant,” the lawsuit stated.
He found that the “median and mean grade-point averages and MCAT scores of admitted black and Hispanic students are significantly lower than the grade-point averages and MCAT scores of admitted white and Asian students; Admitted female students have lower MCAT scores than admitted male students.”
The lawsuit alleges that at UT-Austin Dell, for example, the 75 percentile MCAT score for an admitted black student was well below the 25 percentile MCAT score for an admitted white or Asian student, and a similar pattern is found at all five other med schools. Similar findings resulted when looking at female scores, the suit claims.
What the eff are we DOING? Why would schools base admission on someone’s race/ethnicity/gender rather than aptitude, especially seeing as how these folks are eventually going to be dealing with PEOPLE’S LIVES? That’s kind of a big deal, isn’t it? If it were your mom or dad, your husband/wife, or your CHILD that needed life-saving care, wouldn’t you want the best possible person to care for your family member? Or are you more concerned with the color of that person’s skin? Are you more concerned with whether or not that person is male or female?
I’ll wait over here while you think about the answer.
Progressive politics has NO PLACE in medicine. Wokeness has no place in deciding who gets to go to freaking medical school. It should be best person for the job, period. I don’t give two hoots what color a person’s skin is, what gender they are – I. Don’t. CARE. I want the MOST QUALIFIED PERSON to cut me open on surgery day – period. I want that for the people I love the most. I want to know that the person in charge of my family’s health KNOWS WHAT IN THE HELL THEY’RE DOING.
And I can’t believe we’re even discussing this.

Betcha didn’t know but, the movie Idiocracy was not intended to be a comedy. It was first record in the future and sent back as a documentary warning us of our future, if we went full woke. Yet here we are. The web site below shows every educational group is on a race to the bottom.

idiocracy
noun
1. A government ruled by idiots.
2. government that is based upon abstract theory
It’s no wonder medical error is the second leading cause of death in a hospital. I think a good reason we are unlikely to see cancer cured is cause that is the only one above it.
Hardworking black and Hispanic students should be insulted as hell like I am by affirmative action and its implying that said students are unable to succeed on their own merits, thus the bar must be lowered for them. This renders their hard work, dedication and sacrifices moot. I personally know Barbara Grutter who had unsuccessfully sued University Of Michigan in 2003 over their affirmative action policy. She would have been an excellent student and U of M are losers for turning her down! I highly support the young man in his suit against the institution and wish him success with his case. I’ll be called a “traitor” or “sell-out” for supporting his endeavor, but so what!
Mansplaining, cause I have nothing better to do.
It paints everyone who has achieved anything on merit with the brush of tokenism. It leads to a lack of respect for a person’s achievements, because some will always suspect they did not earn their rewards. I imagine it stinks when you have sacrificed so much to be the best and others now have a reason, at least in their minds, to belittle your accomplishments. All of us no matter what we know only work around a finite amount of people who can actually evaluate us on our intellectual abilities. The rest just guess, and to those with many talents I cannot visualize affirmative action applied to the less qualified helping.
Carry on.
