It’s bad enough that everything in Hollywood is a remake now. But putting a “woke” spin on one of the most classic films of all time is a new low for Hollywood.
Back in August it was announced that Black-ish creator, Kenya Barris, is to write and direct a Wizard of Oz remake. Did you ask for this? Because I know I didn’t.
According Barris, the film is going to take place in modern times. He stated, “Now we’re going to turn a mirror on where we’re at right now and take disparate characters from the LGBTQ community, from different cultural communities and socioeconomic communities, and tell a story that reflects the world. I think this is the best time to do that.”
He proceeded with, “Hopefully, my movie can last as long as the original does.” I’m sorry, but I highly doubt that in 83 years anyone will be talking about your remake of one of the most beloved films of all time. I mean, look at The Wiz. They threw some really big names in there, like Diana Ross and Michael Jackson, and it was a flop.
There are very few times that a remake actually does better than the original. Adding a woke little spin on top of it is not going to help. People are getting sick of having all the wokeness shoved down our throats every time we turn on a movie or the TV. Nevertheless, I’m sure it will still win all the awards at every award show, because that’s Hollywood for ya.
