March 1, 2019President Trump has been under fire for his remarks on Kim Jong-un and Otto Warmbier. Trump told reporters that he confronted Kim Jong-un, who told him he didn’t know about Otto’s case until after the fact.

I’m just gonna repeat what I said before, because my position hasn’t changed:
As I said before, I understand what Trump was trying to say, but even if Kim Jong-un didn’t know about it specifically, HIS SYSTEM DID IT. His officials did it. The evil regime is responsible, and Kim Jong-un is leader of the evil regime. Perhaps it’s true that he didn’t know about it specifically. Perhaps he didn’t do the actual torturing, but it doesn’t change anything.
North Korea is responsible.
AS a result of all of this, Otto Warmbier’s parents, Fred and Cindy, responded:
“We have been respectful during the summit process. Now we must speak out. Kim and his evil regime are responsible for the death of our son Otto. Kim and his evil regime are responsible for unimaginable cruelty and inhumanity. No excuses or lavish praise can change that.”
Trump has “clarified” his remarks on Twitter:
I truly don’t believe that Trump intended his initial remarks to come off as “defending” Kim Jong-un. He knows he’s a disgusting dictator, but he wants NK to agree to denuclearize down the road.
