Mitt Romney’s extremely awkward tango with President Trump continues.
Their relationship is every-evolving. At least their PUBLIC relationship is ever-evolving. I think it’s safe to say that they don’t like each other IRL.
A brief history.
2012:
Tomorrow’s election will have historic repercussions for our country. Make America strong again. Vote for @MittRomney.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 5, 2012
This was the Republicans election to win. @MittRomney is a good man but he just never connected with the people.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 7, 2012
2014:
I can't believe that Mitt Romney would run for president again. He had his chance and blew it in the last weeks of the race.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 15, 2014
2015:
The difference between @SenJohnMcCain and @realDonaldTrump: Trump shot himself down. McCain and American veterans are true heroes.
— Mitt Romney (@MittRomney) July 18, 2015
Why would anybody listen to @MittRomney? He lost an election that should have easily been won against Obama. By the way,so did John McCain!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 18, 2015
.@MittRomney is trying to hit back at me because I'm saying that he let the Repub Party down w/ his loss to Obama. Should've won—he choked!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 1, 2015
2016:
This is when Romney started obsessing over Trump’s tax returns and hinted of a “bombshell.”
Mitt Romney, who totally blew an election that should have been won and whose tax returns made him look like a fool, is now playing tough guy
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 24, 2016
When Mitt Romney asked me for my endorsement last time around, he was so awkward and goofy that we all should have known he could not win!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 24, 2016
Mitt Romney, who was one of the dumbest and worst candidates in the history of Republican politics, is now pushing me on tax returns. Dope!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 25, 2016
Signing a recent tax return- isn't this ridiculous? pic.twitter.com/UdwqF4iZIZ
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 25, 2016
Methinks the Donald doth protest too much. Show voters your back taxes, @realDonaldTrump. #WhatIsHeHiding
— Mitt Romney (@MittRomney) February 25, 2016
I'm going to do what @MittRomney was totally unable to do- WIN!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 25, 2016
If Trump had said 4 years ago the things he says today about the KKK, Muslims, Mexicans, disabled, I would NOT have accepted his endorsement
— Mitt Romney (@MittRomney) March 3, 2016
Here's what I know. Donald Trump is a phony, a fraud. His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University. (1/2)
— Mitt Romney (@MittRomney) March 3, 2016
Why did Mitt Romney BEG me for my endorsement four years ago?
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 3, 2016
.@MittRomney was a disaster candidate who had no guts and choked! Romney is a total joke, and everyone knows it!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 5, 2016
A disqualifying & disgusting response by @realDonaldTrump to the KKK. His coddling of repugnant bigotry is not in the character of America.
— Mitt Romney (@MittRomney) February 29, 2016
Mitt Romney is a mixed up man who doesn't have a clue. No wonder he lost!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 18, 2016
Hitting on married women? Condoning assault? Such vile degradations demean our wives and daughters and corrupt America's face to the world.
— Mitt Romney (@MittRomney) October 8, 2016
Best wishes for our duly elected president: May his victory speech be his guide and preserving the Republic his aim.
— Mitt Romney (@MittRomney) November 9, 2016
Mitt Romney called to congratulate me on the win. Very nice!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 13, 2016
THENNNNNNNNN Romney started positioning himself to possibly score the Secretary of State position in Trump’s administration. That didn’t work out, so Romney ran and won in the Utah Senate primary runoff. Trump congratulated him.
Big and conclusive win by Mitt Romney. Congratulations! I look forward to working together – there is so much good to do. A great and loving family will be coming to D.C.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 27, 2018
Romney thanked him.
Thank you Mr. President for the support. I hope that over the course of the campaign I also earn the support and endorsement of the people of Utah.
— Mitt Romney (@MittRomney) February 20, 2018
And here we are. As you can see, Romney’s opinion of Trump changes depending on what he thinks he can get from him. Trump has been pretty consistent. He tried to give him a chance when he (Romney) was running for POTUS. Then he failed, and when he started talking smack about Trump, Trump defended himself. That’s how it’s always been.
Look at their relationship history here, people!
So here we are. We’re now living in a political world where Romney won’t say if he’ll support Trump in 2020. He just CAN’T LET THIS GO. He said it’s “too early” to say.
JUST NOW: @MittRomney says it's "too early" to say he will support Trump in 2020 pic.twitter.com/8EmHDbqoIM

Mitt Romney said it is “too early” to say he will support President Trump in 2020.
The Utah candidate for U.S. senator further explained to MSNBC’s Kasie Hunt, in an interview that aired Sunday evening, that his prior prediction that Trump will get re-elected was not an endorsement.
“I also think Gavin Newsom will get elected [as governor] in California. That’s not something I want to see, it’s just something that’s probably going to happen,” Romney added.
Romney was also prompted to speak about whether he wants a Republican to challenge Trump in a 2020 primary.
“There will be people who decide, I presume, to get in a Republican primary,” he said in reply.
Mitt. Do us all a favor and go away and host more bro retreats with Joe Biden or something.
