It’s sad that I’ve actually wondered when simply referring to colors was going to be termed racist and offensive. I guess I don’t need to wonder anymore.
According to this, students at a high school in Connecticut are no longer allowed to use a certain cheer at their sporting events because it requires the students to chant their school colors, which are blue and white. The blue isn’t a problem (for now – give it time). But chanting “white”?
OMG WHAT A BUNCH OF FREAKING RAAAAAAAACISTS!
From the article –
A high school cheer that has been around for years is being scrutinized for the use of the word “white.” This is happening at East Hampton High, where the colors are blue and white.
Outraged students quickly took to social media after they were told the cheer was being suspended, ahead of the winter sports season.
The cheer is very common at the school, and with their colors being blue and white, it’s not uncommon to see “white-outs” at games at the school, and at schools across the country.
A note was written earlier this week by Principal John Fidler, and said that because of the current social climate across the country, the use of the “white” cheer is under suspension.
“It’s kind of outgrown just being done in our gym and at pep rallies and there’s a time and a place where the cheer is appropriate and a time when it may appear insensitive,” said school Superintendent Paul Smith.
A decades-old cheer is insensitive? A cheer that has NOTHING to do with racism or white supremacy or anything that dumb?
The stupid thing is that I know exactly which cheer they’re talking about. It’s not unique to just one school. The cheerleaders yell out one of the school’s colors, the crowd yells back another one. It goes like this: “When we say blue, you say white!” If you’ve been to a high school football or basketball game, I’m sure you’ve heard some variation of it (and it’s different depending on what your school’s colors are).
I can’t overstate just how BEYOND idiotic this is. They’ve gone well-past full potato, and they’re on the way to turnip.
The good news is that many of the students are LIVID about this, mostly because it makes them sound like they’ve been a bunch of dirty rotten racists all this time, when nothing could be further from the truth –
Jordan Michnowicz wrote: “…this stuff has me outraged they are trying to take a simple chant that our school has done for years and years. They are trying to make it about race.”
Brandon Kochuk posted “when the seniors cheer all they say is white. they don’t say white power or anything involving race they are just saying white.”
So, what’s the solution? Do we stop having school colors altogether? How about we ban colors entirely? (Crayola just became Public Enemy #1.) Just because a bunch of easily offended snowflakes don’t know the first thing about “context”? Just because the Cult of Social Justice is determined to make EVERYTHING about race and being offended?
My solution is to tell the social justice whiners to pound sand. There is no reason to get rid of ANY high school activity, just because the mere mention of a certain color triggers these butthurt snowflakes.
One thing’s for sure – these morons better not take up painting. Heaven knows the kind of hysterics they’d fall into when confronted with a full palette of colors.
