Pete Hegseth has had it with the lax fitness standards in the military, taking to X to call out the disappointing report that a majority of reserve troops are on the fluffy side.
Completely unacceptable.

This is what happens when standards are IGNORED — and this is what we are changing. REAL fitness & weight standards are here.
We will be FIT, not FAT. pic.twitter.com/KWMlFbS1c8
He’s not wrong. Expecting your military members to be a healthy weight is a no-brainer. Lowering our fitness standard not only puts our country at risk, but also the overweight soldiers in question. It’s kinda hard to fight the enemy if you’re out of breath from walking, after all.
This problem is also a symptom of a greater issue—our unhealthy population. According to the National Institutes of Health, nearly 1 in 3 adults could stand to lose a few. When your population is fat, your soldiers are also going to be fat. It’s as simple as that.
