If I had to sum up this article in one sentence, it would be, “Well if it isn’t the consequences of my own actions.”
In a satisfying turn of events, pro-Palestine protesters who broke into and vandalized a building at Stanford University back in 2024 will face felony charges. Better late than never, I guess? I can only assume the prosecutor was going for a suspenseful buildup or something.
Prosecutors on Thursday filed felony charges against 12 pro-Palestinian protesters who allegedly broke into a Stanford University administration building last year, causing extensive damage that could now land them behind bars for up to three years.
Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen charged 11 current or former Stanford students and one other individual with felony vandalism and felony conspiracy to trespass.
On June 5, 2024, police arrested 13 people alleged to have been involved in breaking into and subsequently barricading themselves inside the Stanford president’s office that morning, demanding that the university boycott and divest from companies associated with the Israeli government.
How about no?
And it wasn’t like this break-in was a spur of the moment decision, with prosecutors saying the culprits “ … preemptively surveilled the building, studied security patterns, and assigned specific roles in the break-in.”
I don’t know in what world someone thinks destroying a college building is “free speech,” but I’ve also never accused members of the Free Palestine movement of being smart. Hopefully after some of these protestors catch a charge, the message will be received: stick to sassy signs and legal protests or face the consequences.
