I won’t pretend to like Bill Maher or agree with him on much, but I must admit, watching his recent report on his private dinner with President Trump made me smile.
Maher’s account of the dinner is level, which I appreciated. He’s clearly still not in love with the president after their meeting and, honestly, I wouldn’t expect him to be given Maher’s liberal leanings. But I do feel like perhaps there is less animosity between the two after their encounter, and it’s a great reminder that sitting down face-to-face is often the best way to see someone’s humanity. The comedian even brought a list of insults Trump has said about Maher to sign. And being the Donald that we all know and love—he did, “with good humor.”
Watch Maher’s breakdown of the evening (but beware, there are some F bombs, so avoid playing around little ears):
Twelve days ago, I had dinner with President Trump, a dinner that my friend @KidRock set up because we share the belief that there has to be something better than hurling insults from 3000 miles away. pic.twitter.com/KE2t2eyBkI
