So long, Mitch.
Sorta.
On Wednesday, Republican party senate leader Mitch McConnell announced his plans to abdicate the throne…soonish.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced Wednesday that he will step down as the top Senate Republican in the coming months.
McConnell, who recently turned 82, is the Senate’s longest-serving party leader with 16 years under his belt. He indicated in remarks on the Senate floor that he plans to stick for the remainder of his term as senator, albeit not as the GOP leader.
“One of life’s most underappreciated talents is to know when it’s time to move on to life’s next chapter,” McConnell said. “So I stand before you today … to say that this will be my last term as Republican leader of the Senate.”
Sen. McConnell: This will be my last term as Republican leader of the Senate. I'm not going anywhere anytime soon. I'll complete my job my colleagues have given me to do until we select a new leader in November…I'll finish my job the people of Kentucky hired me to do as well. pic.twitter.com/9ywtErIZ7M

I mean, that’s cool and all, but this should have happened awhile ago. Especially after he had his hard reboot in the middle of taking questions from the press.
The dude be old. Personally, I think he’s too old to be a senator at all, let alone top senate Republican. And what’s scarier is his term as a senator isn’t over until JANUARY 2027. He will be just shy of 85 at that time.
I would think most people would rather be traveling or enjoying their grandkids at that age. But most people aren’t career politicians.
Term limits, anyone?
