DoorDash has some NERVE, ladies and gents.
DoorDash is informing users of its delivery app that customers who don’t tip may have to wait longer for their food orders.
Users who enter zero as the tip amount in the DoorDash app now receive a pop-up warning explaining that it’s up to drivers, dubbed Dashers by the company, what orders they want to deliver. Drivers have discretion on what orders to accept and are more likely to prioritize customers who offer a tip ahead of delivery, DoorDash said.
“Orders with no tip might take longer to get delivered — are you sure you want to continue? Orders that take longer to be accepted by Dashers tend to result in slower delivery.” the app tells users, according to The Verge.
A DoorDash spokesperson told CBS MoneyWatch on Wednesday that “this reminder screen is something that we’re currently testing to help create the best possible experience for all members of our community,” adding that the company plans to analyze customer feedback.
Well, my feedback is:
This whole tipping before service has been received is bonkers. What if the DoorDasher sucks? What if they stomp on my food? What if they eat my nuggets (which should be a felony by the way)?
I’m more than happy to be generous if it is warranted, but that’s just it: tipping should be reserved for a doing an exceptional job—not for breathing.
Comedian John Crist summed up how I’m feeling perfectly.
“The Lord wants 10 and Stephanie wants 20.”
Lolllllll.
Stephanie is about to get 0 thanks to Bidenomics. As for me, I’ll be cooking my own dinner tonight, thanks.

If the driver is being paid for services rendered (which they are, they do get some form of pay from DoorDash), then why am I paying anything extra? Either bake it into the price or deal with a zero tip.
“But Zap, drivers don’t make a lot.”
I’m well aware. What I’m not aware of is anyone holding a gun to a driver’s head forcing them to be a DoorDash driver. They CHOSE to be a driver. They acknowledged the low pay when they accepted the sign-up.
Ah! Cooking at home. I cannot cook. Never could, but I do nuke a mean hot dog. So, unless it is what I used to con my kids with, Cowboy food. Defined as a can of beans with cut up hot dogs in the microwave for two minutes. I know not every kid can have such a great childhood, but I digress.
Watching my wife cook brings out one of two feelings in me. O.K. sometimes both at once. Anyho, a person can only eat so much. The other feeling, well there is no time limit on that, that I am aware of. (Everyone should have a hobby.) You would think with all that aerobic exercise, I would be skinny, but I am not. (I lift weights regularly, why what did you think I was talking about?)
What were we talking about? O’ya! I don’t use door dash, so my tipping habits don’t matter.
Companies might remember it is the customer who they are serving, not the customer who is serving them. Maybe it would be smarter to just up the price for delivery and pay the increase to the delivery person as part of the service so everyone knows up front the cost and this unnecessary blaming their customers for Door Dashes’ lack of a proper employee compensation plan would be unnecessary.
