Representative Jim Jordan will now support Patrick McHenry to take the gavel and move legislation along after Jordan endured defeat this past Wednesday.
This discrepancy to find a new speaker has paralyzed Congress for just a hair over two weeks now after McCarthy was ousted, so the temporary bid to give McHenry the gavel will alleviate the stalemate.
Representative Jordan will continue to work with his skeptical colleagues as he remains a GOP candidate for speaker, hoping to tie up loose ends with them or reassure them to earn their support. Jordan lost 20 votes on Tuesday, then 22 on his second ballot for speaker on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, McHenry will be able to move along legislation that includes the support for Israel and spending bills.
Needless to say, Congress has been under a tidbit of pressure while the Middle East is at war and the government shutdown deadline swiftly approaches November 17th.
It seems that a full 217 majority vote is currently not likely with any of the candidates.
