When I sat down scanned the headlines in preparation to write today, I was hit with just how heavy everything feels.
I’m a new mom, so reading the news of Hamas kidnapping and killing children in Israel has been borderline unbearable. As much as I want to be informed, I’ve had to pace myself. News about babies hits harder when you’ve got a tiny person babbling in your lap.
Then, amongst all the chaotic headlines, today I stumbled on the ultimate bad-news palette cleanser: a 49-second clip of the one and only, Mister Rogers.
My guess is he came upon this sage advice after watching C-SPAN.
I’m not crying, you’re crying.
While it’s important not to be oblivious about the state of the world, I do think there is something to be said about knowing when to sign off. Humans can only handle so much bad news. And I’ve had to remind myself not to let the bad distract from the abundance of blessings I’ve got right in front of me.
So, to recap: when the news is getting to be a bit much, remember this—you can turn off scary TV, and Mister Rogers is so proud of you.

>While it’s important not to be oblivious about the state of the world
Given the world today I think more people are oblivious to the state of the world than realize as the one thing the media gets right is there is an over abundance of misinformation being spread, they just leave out the part that they are the purveyors.
It is sad that the only thing the media gets right today is that they are often wrong, though, as you say, they often leave out the “they” part of that sentence.
