600,000 gallons of red wine have flooded the town of São Lorenco de Bairro, Portugal. Two tanks at the Levira Distillery busted leaving gallons of wine flowing through the town. According to the New York Post, the amount of wine that was released could have filled an Olympic sized swimming pool. That’s a lot of wine!
The wine was rushing down a hill towards the river. Thankfully, the fire department was able to stop the flood before it got to the river. They were able to divert it to a nearby field instead. The fear now is that it could potentially ruin the soil, but the soil from the field has been taken to a special treatment plant.
The distillery released a statement that they, “Assume full responsibility for the costs associated with cleaning and repairing the damage, having teams do so immediately.”
I know it’s potentially an environmental issue, and a house was flooded with wine, so that’s not good. I don’t want to make light of the situation…but all I’m saying is, if your town is going to flood with anything, red wine is what I would want it to be. And listen, there is a chance that if I lived in that town I would be out there with a glass having some drinks. I do love red wine.

Might I suggest a new town theme song?
