It seems Fox News tried to capitalize off of the success of Oliver Anthony’s hit song, “Rich Men North of Richmond” by playing it at the Republican primary debate.
The irony of it is THE SONG IS ABOUT THE PEOPLE THERE. Did they not listen to the lyrics? Or does whoever picked the music over at Fox have a great sense of humor? Inquiring minds want to know.
Anthony responded to the news with a laugh and some stern words.

“It's aggravating seeing people on conservative news try to identify with me like I'm one of them.… pic.twitter.com/Ae7sVY6Mkp
“I’ve talked to hundreds of people the last two weeks. But it seems like certain people want to just ride the attention of this song to maybe make their own selves relevant, and that’s aggravating as hell.”
Aggravating as hell, indeed.
I’ve appreciated the humble way that Anthony has handled the success of this song. He doesn’t seem interested in fame, and I love that he has rejected offers from the country music industry. It will be fun to see what direction he decides to take his career—but my guess is he won’t be playing at any inaugurations.
