NYC Imposing Stay Limits On Illegal Immigrants After Consequences Catch Up With Them

The whole illegal immigration and “sanctuary cities” debacle is one of the most powerful “I told you so” moments in recent history. So many of these Big Blue cities claim to be sanctuary cities, which they believe makes them more virtuous than all the cities who prioritize legal citizens over illegal immigrants. Then when millions of illegal immigrants flooded into our country across our open border, these so-called “sanctuary cities” were outraged that the non-sanctuary cities started sending all the illegals to them, as though that’s somehow not what it means to be a “sanctuary city.” Obviously, if a city claims to support illegal immigration and be equipped to handle it, why wouldn’t all the other cities send the illegal immigrants to them instead of voluntarily burdening their own cities?

But, as it turns out, being a “sanctuary city” isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. It’s a huge burden to support millions of people who aren’t contributing to the system in any way. It’s politically damaging to displace taxpaying citizens in favor of people who broke our laws to get here and need to be taken care of by those taxpaying citizens. And it ends up straining pretty much every facet of society in those cities.

As New York City is forced to face the very difficult consequences of their radical Leftist social policies, they’re realizing that those policies aren’t really feasible, which the rest of the country has been trying to explain to them for a long time. As a result, NYC Mayor Adams is taking the “sanctuary” out of “sanctuary city” and imposing a 60 day stay limit on adult illegal immigrants who are in city-run shelters, although this restriction won’t apply to families with children. He said,

“I have taken extraordinary measures to shelter and care for asylum seekers. We must now take additional steps to create urgently needed space for families with children who continue to arrive.”

“We will do this by giving 60 days’ notice to adult asylum seekers already in our care to find alternative housing.”

“We will start this in the coming days with asylum seekers in humanitarian relief centers who have been in our care for significant amounts of time.”

Hilariously, he goes on to say,

“We cannot continue to absorb tens of thousands of newcomers…We’re not going to pretend this is sustainable. It’s wrong that New York City is carrying the weight of a national problem.”

Really? Well, then, maybe y’all shouldn’t vote for people who invite and entice millions of illegal immigrants and then keep our border wide open for them. And don’t pretend for a second that New York City is “carrying the weight of a national problem.” The southern border is carrying the weight of a national problem that New York’s people and politicians spent literal years pretending wasn’t an issue, and those southern states finally had the balls to share the burden with places that claim they support the things that created the problem. New York City literally asked for this. They voted for it and they pretend like they’re more virtuous for it, so deal with it.
