June 7, 2023Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker may be special teams on the football field, but he’s proving himself to be an incredible defender in public life. A few weeks ago, Butker was praised for a speech given to new graduates in which he celebrated and defended getting married and having a family. It’s weird and tragic that a public stance like this has become something rare and worthy of celebration, but high-profile socialites like professional athletes don’t often take a public stance on things that might prove to be controversial. Again, how tragic that marriage and family is controversial.
This week, the football team was invited to the White House with President Joe Biden after winning the 2023 Super Bowl. True to his devout pro-life and Catholic beliefs, Butker wore overtly pro-life items to the White House including a tie with Latin words meaning “protect the vulnerable,” as well as a pin which memorializes the feet of a 10-week-old preborn baby.
