Let’s start by hopping into our little time machines, otherwise known as Twitter receipts.
BEHOLD, New York City in May ’22 (oh lawd, it’s still THAT recent??!) vs New York City today:

This is ACTUALLY REAL, Y’ALL. I know it reads like something from the Babylon Bee, but NYC Mayor Eric Adams ACTUALLY SAID that shop owners should be requiring people to take their masks off to go into a store:
“We are putting out a clear call to all of our shops, do not allow people to enter the store without taking off their face mask. Once they’re inside, they can continue to wear it if they so desire to do so.”
This is so whack on so many levels I genuinely don’t know where to start. Should I go with the absurd masking not-quite-mandates? Or maybe I should begin with the massive crime wave in New York. Or should I start with the obvious hypocrisy? Sure, it’s basically a given in politics, but it always bears mentioning.
Adams went on to say, “When you see these mask-wearing people, oftentimes it’s not about being fearful of the pandemic, it’s fearful of the police catching them for their deeds.”
MY DUDE, it is not. I mean, what possible reason do criminals in New York have to fear the police? It’s not like they’ll be arrested, and even if they are they’ll be back on the streets in a matter of days to keep on keepin’ on. By which I mean, committing crimes.
NYPD’s Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddery expressed a similar sentiment. “As a sign of a peace offering, a sign of safety to those store workers, when we walk in, we should take down our mask,” he said.
Has no one stopped to think how utterly dystopian that is? A “sign of peace“?! Bruh. If your city is so effed that people need to wave a proverbial white flag just to buy eggs gas baby formula something they can afford, whatever they do or do not have on their faces is the least of your worries.
Get your house in order, boys. This is madness.

So which is worse Mr NYC Store Owner… customers dying from COVID or being shot by some gun-toting punk? Now Adams will claim he’s “tough on crime”. And everyone thought DeBlasio was a bad mayor.
Covid let New York City lay the perfect trap for business owners (you know… the source of significant tax revenue?). People should take off their masks when they enter stores as a “peace offering”. But remember to not let people take their masks off or else face the threat of having your business forcibly closed down.
