Kids aren’t learning what they’re supposed to in a public school? In Chicago? Really?
Didn’t see that one coming… said absolutely no one…
From the Daily Wire:
There are no students proficient at grade level in math or reading at dozens of Illinois public schools, according to a new report from a nonprofit research organization.
The report from Wirepoints found that at 30 Illinois schools, no students can read at grade level, while at 53 schools, no student is proficient in math. The schools are primarily located in the Chicago area, and the spending per student varied in 2022 from about $6,000 to more than $50,000.
“The absolute failure to teach even a single child to read and do math in so many schools is yet another indictment of the state’s educational system,” the report says.
One school referenced by Wirepoints is Spry Community Links High School, located in Chicago, where none of the 88 students are proficient in either math or reading despite the school spending more than $35,000 per student each year.
Another Chicago school, Douglas Academy High School, spends over $56,000 per student yearly, but none of its 44 students can read or perform math at a proficient level.
“Defenders of the current system are sure to invoke COVID as the big reason for the low scores. But a look at the 2019 numbers show that the reading and math numbers were only slightly better than they are now,” the report added.
“The majority of schools listed in the recent Wirepoints report are CPS Options Schools which serve students who re-enrolled after dropping out. Options Schools serve some of our most vulnerable students who face higher rates of challenges related to special education, housing instability, involvement in the justice system, and victimization. The combination of these challenges lead to higher rates of mobility, transiency, chronic absenteeism, and disengagement from school for extended periods of time,” the school district said in a statement to Fox News.
Not sure what more we can expect from Chicago: Mayor Beetlejuice’s vast kingdom of death and destruction. Maybe if she spent a little less time viewing students as potential vessels that can get her reelected, and a little more time seeing them as children who desperately need some help, we’d actually get somewhere.
Yeah, yeah, yeah… she didn’t end up using the kids to scrape together votes, but she probably would have if it wasn’t illegal…
A lack of proficiency in basic subjects is an issue that’s perfectly evident outside of Chicago, too. It’s a huge problem for kids all over the country, and it shouldn’t be.
How can America claim to be “the beacon of the free world” if its kids can’t read or do long division?
We can’t let this keep getting worse, and no politician will be the one to fix it. It’s obviously what they prefer…
Kids that can’t read turn into adults that don’t pay attention, and the population becomes that much easier to control.
In other words… the problem is more profitable when it’s allowed to fester in an environment of empty promises and ineffective solutions.
This study in particular also does an incredible job at highlighting the fact that throwing taxpayer money at our problems has never, and I’m guessing will never, work…
We need good people with good intentions to get into our systems and fix things. Easier said than done, I know…

The students can’t read, write or do arithmetic worth a hill of beans, but golly-lolly, they’ll learn how to game the welfare system when their school-issued birth control fails and be fully imbued with leftist indoctrination. The “three R’s” is so twentieth century, “Eurocentric”, “patriarchal” and “oppressive”! Chances are, they and their children will become the compliant, low-info future Democrat voters churned out by government schools whom leftist politicians will exploit to the hilt. They can’t have people thinking for themselves, you know. It takes the fun out of controlling the sheeple.
I’m a cesspool like Chicago I’m not surprised I’m the least🙄
Oh but they will graduate because of diversity equity and inclusion and will be hired because of diversity equity and inclusion.
They can’t do math or read but they can tell you how many genders there are and name all the 100 ways that they are victims.
. . . while those of us who worked our tails off in school are held back and used to prop up the schools’ sagging credibility, (as was done with me).
Ok I’m back on here and wanted to say hi to you because you’re one of my all time favorite commenters 😁
Welcome back! Good to see you and thanks for saying “hi”.
Of course kids can’t read, write or do math. They need all that brain power to process the new pronouns everyone has.
Students aren’t taught HOW to think, they’re taught WHAT to think. Then again, thinking is verboten. People thinking for themselves could be detrimental to the powers-that-be.
