NYT Just Tried To Spin Biden’s Pathological Dishonesty Into A Virtue: “Biden’s Folksiness Can Veer Into Folklore”

Holy cow, they must be dizzy from the spin on this story. This is truly incredible. Let’s just start off by reminding everyone that yesterday, Joe Biden lied about how his son Beau died, saying that he “lost his life in Iraq.” Which isn’t even close to true. While Beau did serve in the military as a lawyer, he died of glioblastoma in 2015, no where near Iraq. But Biden blatantly lied about it to make the story a little better and a little more relatable and impactful for his audience.

Biden lies like that a lot. He said he was “raised in the Puerto Rican community at home,” that he “got raised in the black church” and “got my education… in the black church,” and that he “probably went to shul more than many of you.” He lied about being a full professor for 4 years. He lied about being “arrested” in various situations. He lied about a small kitchen fire being a devastating house fire. Seriously, it goes on and on. The lies are piling up and it can no longer be ignored. Biden either has no concept of reality or he’s willing to simply lie willy-nilly at the drop of a hat if he thinks his audience might appreciate the “improved” story. I think it’s a little of both. He’s always lied to make himself look better and eventually that just became his identity, especially as he is losing his tenuous grip on reality. Reality is just whatever he thinks up in the moment that fits nicely enough, as it always has been for him.

So the New York Times wrote a piece called, “Biden, Storyteller in Chief, Spins Yarns That Often Unravel; President Biden has been unable to break himself of the habit of embellishing narratives to weave a political identity.”

They’re trying to spin this so that Biden lying about everything isn’t actually a bad thing. They’re making it out to be an endearing virtue. They’re calling it “folksy.” They even include a quote by author Eric Alterman, saying,

“With Biden, people have decided these are not the kind of lies that matter,. These are the kinds of lies that people’s grandfathers tell.”

They refer to Biden’s “exaggerated biography” when referring to his lies about things he never did growing up, like being repeatedly arrested as a civil rights activist. They say he “claimed to have been an award-winning student who earned three degrees.” They don’t say he lied about any of it. In fact, they meticulously avoid every iteration of the word “lie” in regard to Biden. Instead, they use words like “exaggeration,” “falsehood,” “folksiness,” “claims,” “embellishing,” and “stories.” But “lies” is their main descriptor for their comparisons to Trump. In fact, the entire article is basically a comparison to Donald Trump. It reads like a “Yeah, Biden lies, but Trump…!” sort of narrative. One paragraph reads,

“For more than four decades, Mr. Biden has embraced storytelling as a way of connecting with his audience, often emphasizing the truth of his account by adding, “Not a joke!” in the middle of a story. But Mr. Biden’s folksiness can veer into folklore, with dates that don’t quite add up and details that are exaggerated or wrong, the factual edges shaved off to make them more powerful for audiences.

Mr. Biden’s instances of exaggeration and falsehood fall far well short of those of his predecessor, who during four years in office delivered what the Washington Post fact checker called a ‘tsunami of untruths’ and CNN described as a ‘staggering avalanche of daily wrongness.'”

I’d say Biden is certainly to the point of ‘tsunami of untruths’ and ‘staggering avalanche of daily wrongness.’ And I’m honestly impressed with the dedication of the propagandists to try to spin Biden being a pathological liar into something virtuous. It’s creative, I’ll give them that.
