VP Harris’s Motorcade Crashed, Secret Service Lied About It

On Monday, a motorcade transporting Vice President Harris to work for the day was in a single-car accident when the driver reportedly overcorrected and hit a curb hard enough that the tire of the SUV had to be changed. The motorcade was stopped near Foggy Bottom at 10:20 a.m. and VP Harris was transferred to a different vehicle and swept away. Here’s a video.

There are at least two major issues here. Firstly, how did the driver of a Secret Service motorcade SUV carrying the Vice President manage to hit a curb so hard that they had to stop the motorcade to change the tire? Do you know how much training they go through? A highly trained Secret Service agent assigned to drive the Vice Presidential motorcade does not just accidentally overcorrect so hard that they have to replace a tire. Sorry, I’m just not buying it.

Secondly, the Secret Service lied about the whole thing. They reported a “mechanical failure” to senior leadership, which some in the agency said was decidedly misleading and certainly inaccurate. Kim Cheatle, director of the Secret Service, apparently “confided to allies that she was disturbed by the inaccuracy of the alert related to the Harris accident,” one anonymous Secret Service official told The Washington Post. So why lie about a simple overcorrection and blown tire, if that’s really all that happened? Again, I’m just not buying.
