Kamala Harris gave a predictably terrible interview to Chuck Todd with Meet the Press. But I was particularly amused by one exchange. Kamala Harris flat out lies about the border being secure, then when pressed on the lie, gives a bizarrely political non-answer that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. But it does include some words relevant to the subject, so I guess she gets a pass. Here’s the transcript with my emphasis added.
Chuck Todd: “Would you call the border secure?”
Kamala Harris: “I think that there is no question that we have to do what the president and I asked Congress to do, the first request we made: pass a bill to create a pathway to citizenship. The border is secure, but we also have a broken immigration system, in particular, over the last four years before we came in, and it needs to be fixed.”
Chuck Todd: “We’re going to have two million people cross this border for the first time ever. You’re confident this border’s secure?”
Kamala Harris: “We have a secure border in that that is a priority for any nation, including ours and our administration. But there are still a lot of problems that we are trying to fix given the deterioration that happened over the last four years. We also have to put into place a law and a plan for a pathway for citizenship for the millions of people who are here and are prepared to do what is legally required to gain citizenship. We don’t have that in place because people are playing politics in a state like this and in Congress. By the way, you want to talk about bipartisanship on an issue that at one time was a bipartisan issue both in terms of Republican senators and even presidents.”
“@VP – The border is secure…@chucktodd – We’re going to have 2M people cross this border for the first time ever. You’re confident this border’s secure?

Kamala- We have a secure border in that that is a priority for any nation, including ours and our administration.”
So… no. https://t.co/khr1B8iKYN
What does that even mean? It’s secure in that that is a priority for any nation? How does the assumption that it is a priority for any nation mean that our actual border is actually secure right now? The truth is, it’s NOT secure. As Chuck Todd said, we will have 2 million people illegally cross the southern border for the first time ever. That’s not secure. And the reason it’s not secure is because border security hasn’t been a priority for the Biden Administration. In fact, border security has been pointedly ignored and the immigration crisis vehemently denied. So even her saying that it’s secure “in that that is a priority for any nation, including ours and our administration,” which makes no sense anyway, is a lie. Because it’s not a priority of their administration.

Democrats identify the border as secure, therefore it is secure.
