Remember a few years back when a bunch of your sheeple “friends” on Facebook blacked out their profile pictures and then all the pearl-clutching white, upper-middle class housewives started preaching to everyone they knew about how they just read “White Fragility” and OMG y’all – Black Lives Matter.
Remember?
Yeeeeeeah. If you dared to say that ALL Lives Mattered or if you didn’t make your profile picture a black square and you didn’t proclaim that you weren’t just NOT a racist, pro-BLM and you were an outward, fist-in-the-air supporter of the group that was now a widespread corporate darling (seriously, though, CEOs are the sheepiest of the sheeple, aren’t they?), you were branded a racist jackhat. Or worse – one of them right wingerssss who voted for Trump.
OMG the horror.
Fast forward to today. A “journalist” (and I use that term loosely) over there at Huffpo actually wrote a little ditty titled “The Business of Black Death and A $6 Million Mansion.” It exposes the BLM organization for what it really is – a CASH GRAB.
Darren Seals, a former Ferguson activist said:
“This Black Lives Matter shit is blowing up and as it’s blowing up, you’re not hearing about Mike Brown anymore. … All you’re hearing about is Black Lives Matter now. They took the energy away from Ferguson.”
“Cops ain’t stopped killing here since Mike Brown died, and what Black Lives Matter doing about it? They just collecting checks. I ain’t heard of them paying for no funerals. I ain’t heard of them starting no programs for the youth, building no centers. Nothing. So we back at square one, back where we started. No justice, no nothing.”
But the MONEY tho. I mean, the money has been flowing IN like crazy over the past few years. After all, when you have corporate backing and the media and popular culture and a bunch of rich people throwing cash at you – it’s bound to flow like crazy. And since 2013, three women – Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza and Opal Tometi – have mismanaged that money in pretty disgusting ways that benefit NO one but themselves.
Go figure.
The organization raked in over 90 million dollars. Cullors bought FOUR homes just by herself – costing in excess of 3 million dollars, and then there was the LA mansion in the news this month:
…the foundation took some $6 million of donation money to secretly buy a mansion. And not just any mansion: a spread in Southern California with “more than 6,500 square feet, more than half a dozen bedrooms and bathrooms, several fireplaces, a soundstage, a pool and bungalow, and parking for more than 20 cars,” according to New York Magazine, which broke the news. Because everyone knows that the Movement for Black Lives — a movement that rose to prominence on the deaths of unarmed Black men, women and children by police — needs multiple fireplaces.
Of course they needed those fireplaces, y’all.
But screw the people who actually could use the help from the BLM movement. The people who those three women stepped on to line their own pockets:
…the mother of Tamir Rice, responded to news of the $6 million mansion in a Facebook post: “Smdh. I tried to tell you all. People will use your pain for their own gain and really think it’s OK.”
Later that same day she posted: “My baby boy needs justice. He’s not your hustle.”
Actually, he IS their hustle, ma’am.
And all you pearl-clutching, Facebook warriors? You. Got. Played.
But Huffpo? Maybe removing your head out of your backside a year ago would’ve helped the people who needed help the most a YEAR ago. But that would entail actual journalism – I know.
