Tik Tok is being cancelled in the U.S. The clock is running out, tick tock, tick tock, on the Tik Tok. Sorry y’all, I couldn’t resist!
I guess President Trump meant business when he gave this September 15th deadline to China regarding making a deal on Tik Tok.
The Hill is reporting on this new development and escalation of tension between the U.S. and China.
The Trump administration announced Friday that it will ban WeChat and TikTok from U.S. app stores starting Sunday.
The order is a significant escalation against the two Chinese-owned apps that have massive user bases in the U.S.
WeChat users will also be banned from transferring funds and processing payments through the messaging apps starting Sunday.
The Department of Commerce restrictions will also bar companies from providing internet hosting, content delivery networks or peering services for WeChat or use any of the app’s code, functions or services within the U.S. as of Sunday. The same restrictions will apply to TikTok starting Nov. 12.
I must say, I’m totally okay with all of this. I know some people (like Mock) just love the Tik Tok, but I’m all for anything that sticks it to China at this point. The corornavirus traced back to their wet market (or possibly lab-created) has made 2020 a complete disaster. It has made it so our kids can’t go to school. It has forced us to change our very way of life.
Reuters is reporting that the U.S. Department of Commerce will issue an order Friday to bar U.S. customers from downloading Chinese owned applications TikTok and WeChat. The order will take effect Sunday, sources told Reuters.
The Trump administration has raised concerns over China’s use of the apps, suggesting the Chinese government may be using the apps to collect information on its users for nefarious purposes.
…
Oracle and Microsoft have reportedly been in separate talks with TikTok’s owner Bytdance to purchase the app, but the Chinese government has signaled that it will not allow a sale to go through.
Don’t worry too much though all you Tik Tok lovers. You can continue to use your downloaded app, it just won’t update anymore. Hopefully, Trump’s ban will make the U.S. more secure and light a fire under China to sell the company to a U.S. firm.
Trump to block U.S. transactions with TikTok, WeChat:
-Would block distribution, maintenance of apps in U.S.
-Would block mobile funds transactions within the U.S. on WeChat
-Current U.S. users can continue using apps, software updates won't be available https://t.co/sqUodp38Yj pic.twitter.com/WWhQNbu8mQ— CNBC (@CNBC) September 18, 2020
