After George Floyd was killed by ex-police officer Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis, protestors took to the streets to call for reform within our criminal justice system.
Nancy Pelosi and the other idiots in the House unveiled sweeping legislation today that would tackle police reform. The measure would ban chokeholds and no-knock warrants on drug cases.
NBC News reported that the bill called the “Justice in Policing Act,” would ban chokeholds, no-knock warrants, and would require local police departments to send data on the use of force to the federal government. The bill also requires police departments to create a grant program that would allow the local state attorneys general to create an independent process to review the excessive use of force cases. It will make it easier for people to file for damages against police departments that violate their “civil rights.”
NBC also reported that Nancy Pelosi said at the press conference today that “the martyrdom of George Floyd gave the American experience a moment of national anguish as we grieve for the black Americans killed by police brutality today. This moment of national anguish is being transformed into a movement of national action as Americans from across the country peacefully protest to demand an end to injustice.”
I think it is common sense that all police should wear body cameras and they should be on at all times; it is as much for their safety as it is ours.
I agree with the demolishing of the no-knock warrants as I don’t believe the government should ever be able to come into someone’s home without identifying themselves and showing a valid warrant even if that person is selling drugs.
How is the police department, which in most cities is woefully underfunded, going to afford to create the independent investigations and outfit all personnel with body cameras when the bill doesn’t provide funding for these departments to meet the new standard?
The new battle cry for liberal cities is to DEFUND THE POLICE FORCE.
You read that correctly, these idiots think that defunding the police is the best way to stop police brutality.
What they don’t seem to understand is that they would be exchanging one evil for another.
The cities currently planning to defund their police departments are Los Angeles, Minneapolis, and New York City.
Fox reported on the following cities:
New York City:
Bill De Blasio is New York City’s idiotic mayor. Bill announced on Sunday that he would be giving in to the protesters’ demands and is taking funds away from the NYPD and using them toward youth and social services.
De Blasio says that this funding change will be happening within the next three weeks, and that stripping funding alone is not enough. He will be taking tasks traditionally reserved for the police and giving them to a newly created community task force.
Because nothing says, “our city isn’t corrupt,” like creating a civilian task force that will more than likely be filled with the liberal cronies of whoever is in charge at the time.
Los Angeles:
Los Angeles is planning on cutting around $150 million from the LAPD’s budget. Los Angeles is a city that is plagued by crime and corruption.
LA has a serious drug and gang problem, but instead of addressing these issues and creating real and lasting reform to their police departments, Mayor Garcetti pledged to launch the city’s new Civil and Human Rights Department and Civil and Human Rights Commission.
He said that it will help to protect anyone in LA from “discrimination or denial of equal treatment in private employment, housing, education or commerce.” If you notice not a single one of those categories addresses police brutality.
Minneapolis:
Minneapolis is the city where the conversation turned into protests, and those were then turned into riots.
At the protest in Minneapolis on Saturday, nine of the city’s council members vowed to defund the police department. Of course, the super-liberal crowd cheered in celebration after hearing the news. Nine members are enough that any motion the counsel brings cannot be vetoed by the Mayor, who has already said he would not be defunding the police department. The public will still have a say as any real action to change the police department or change the funding to the police department will require a public vote.
Reaction around the country seems to be that a majority of American citizens think this is idiotic.
After watching multiple videos that showcase police brutality; I do think that our police procedures and the way we train our police force needs to change.
The shocking thing I learned after watching these videos is that a large number of police brutality videos involved white cops on white people. I was expecting to see videos where all the victims are black.
Do I think there are bad cops out there that use their authority for power trips? Yes, I do.
Do I think that there are cops out there that treat suspected criminals like they aren’t human beings? Yes, I do.
Do I think that police training needs reform? Yes, I do.
Do I think that all police are racist and their only objective is to kill Black people? No, I do not.
