Lifesite News is bringing attention to the fact that the beloved and iconic children’s show, Sesame Street, will have Billy Porter on its 51st season. For those not familiar with Porter, he is a gay, cross-dressing LGBTQ+ activist. He is known for his role as Pray Tell on the FX show Pose. He is also known for dressing flamboyantly in women’s clothing.
Lifesite reminds readers that Sesame Street has a history of being political with gender and sexuality.
This isn’t the first time Sesame Street has promoted LGBT themes. In 2017, it tweeted a “rainbow” of multicolored Muppets for Pride Month with the declaration, “Sesame Street is proud to support families of all shapes, sizes, and colors.” Later that year, its song “Anyone Can Play” purported to smash gender norms for children’s toys and costumes, including the lyrics “some boys like to play dolls” while the male character Grover is seen in a purple dress.
It has not been reported what the topic of Porter’s episode will be. Based on the promotional photos Sesame Street released, it’s clear he will at least be wearing his tuxedo dress, if not other outfits. That will certainly raise questions among children.
In reading through the Facebook comments, it is so disturbing to see so many comments in support of Porter’s appearance on the show. These must be the same people who support Drag Queen story hour at the library.
Yay, Sesame Street! Has always been my favorite kids show. Proud to see them continuing to shape kids into being loving and accepting of all.
He is such a handsome, confident, successful man who knows who he is, what he wants, & how to go out & get it! I can only hope my children look up to this fantastic role model & take all the wonderful lessons in.
Thank you Sesame Street, this representation is SO needed💚👏💚🤟If you see this and you’re upset by it, maybe you should do what your parents couldn’t and help your children become emotionally healthy and confident adults.
Can. Not. Love. This. Enough. He’s such a source of positive energy and love, and absolutely loved that outfit.
Well, I. Can. Not. Be. Disturbed. Enough.
Why must the left insist on sexualizing young children? Why must they try and confuse them on gender and sexuality? For some reason, the idea of age-appropriate topics seems to have disappeared. The LGBTQ+ agenda has become highly political and this should not be forced upon children. Children are clearly targeted by the left because they are so impressionable. It is despicable.
I have no problem with adults dressing however they want and having whatever relationships they want with other consenting adults. I agree everyone should be treated with kindness and respect. However, that still does not make every topic under the sun appropriate for CHILDREN.
One Facebook user had common sense and broke it down nicely.
If you want to teach diversity start with the kids that aren’t as athletic, the kids that have disabilities, the kids that aren’t as smart or aren’t as rich. Sesame Street is for children. And diversity should be taught at a child appropriate level. A man in a dress is not child appropriate, in fact, it can be confusing. While striving to teach to “be yourself” you’re teaching boys who are masculine that it’s not ok for them to be masculine. Yes, you can still love each other, and yes, you can still teach inclusion without having a man wearing a dress as a guest.
The air date for Porter’s episode has not yet been released.
