So, this is how much TLC is scraping the bottom of the barrel for show ideas now, y’all. Check this out:
For these couples, love knows no size. See the highs and lows of their mixed-weight relationships on the series premiere of #HotandHeavy Tuesday, January 7 at 10/9c. pic.twitter.com/QAFh8AILj7

So many questions.
Like – where are the gigantic fat dudes loved by thin women? Because if there’s not gonna be equal representation, then maybe the show shouldn’t be positioned as “couples in mixed-weight relationships” and instead should be positioned as “men with obesity fetishes.”
I mean, the dude who says he wishes his wife was BIGGER? That’s a fetish, y’all. THE NAME OF THE SHOW IS HOT AND HEAVY, for crying out loud.
I’m not suggesting, by the way, that these women don’t deserve love. Of course they do. And I’m not suggesting that ALL obese people in relationships are only in those relationships because they are the objects of their partners’ fetishes.
It’s an interesting topic, actually. Where is the line between people who are genuinely attracted to fat people because it’s their “type” and people who have fat fetishes?
But this TLC show? Here’s the thing. Obesity shouldn’t be glorified. Neither should any body type that’s unhealthy, including folks who are so painfully thin that you can see protruding bones everywhere.
The people in this trailer are CLEARLY RISKING THEIR LIVES being so gigantic. You know how I know? Find me a morbidly obese old person.
I’ll wait.
I know, I know. There have been a few studies which suggest that overweight people can live as long as thin people. I’m not talking about overweight people. I’m not even talking about people who are considered morbidly obese according to their BMI. I’m talking about morbidly obese people who are so obviously morbidly obese that no BMI scale is remotely necessary, because they look like the people in the trailer for this dumbass show. It’s not a grey area.
Did you get a load of the part in the trailer above where someone from a car yells, “Lay off the ice cream, you cow!” and the chick bursts into tears? If you’re trying to tell me that’s not the most scripted thing you’ve ever seen, please allow me to sell you some Indiana tidal wave insurance because DAYUM.
TLC by the way, is an acronym for The Learning Channel. In what way is this show teaching anyone anything? Maybe they’re trying to teach us in the same way that the godawful website we discussed in our latest podcast is trying to teach us. If you missed the episode, you missed us teaching you about how fat people have sex with skinny people. FOR REAL:
Listen to “Ep. 19: Mock and Daisy Help you get “Woke”” on Spreaker.
Anyway, this ridiculous TLC show starts on January 7th. If you watch it, report back. 🙂
