Zac Efron stars as notorious serial killer Ted Bundy in the Netflix release “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.”
I haven’t watched it and likely won’t. I don’t do well with those kinds of movies, especially when they’re true.
Efron, of course, has weighed in on playing the serial killer, but many find his take puzzling. He seemed to suggest that Bundy was able to fool so many people and get away with murder for so long because of– wait for it– white privilege.
“Ted Bundy is a vile, vile human being. There is no part of this at all… I can’t express how much I loathe the man that this movie is about,” he explained.
“The fact is that this movie really happened. The fact is that the whole world, literally, all the media, everybody, was capable of believing that this guy was innocent,” he continued.
“Talk about white privilege, talk about white… whatever. Every major topic in this movie is bent on showing you how evil this person is,” he added.
Yeah…he was going there. “White privilege.”
He also described Bundy as a “clean-cut, white dude” to Ellen DeGeneres and added, “Talk about white privilege.”
“What he got away with back then, nobody would be able to do today. It’s a moment in time that came and passed, and it’s truly scary,” he added.
The man was one of the most evil, heinous creatures to walk the planet, and he’s going to bring “white privilege” into it? That just seems ill-timed, stupid and wrong.
Thoughts?
