For the most part, Republicans are much tougher on crime than Democrats are. (For the most part? I mean virtually 100% of the time.)
For one, we don’t think everyone is a “victim.” You dictate your own destiny – you are accountable for your own actions. If you mess up, you’re going to face the consequences. PERIOD.
Democrats like to tell criminals it’s not their FAULT they’re criminals. They’re simply a victim of their environment!
It’s safe to say then, that Democrats think they have violent criminals in the bag when it comes to votes.
…which is why Bernie is making sure they get to. Even if still behind bars.
According to the Des Moines Register:
While Iowa struggles on whether to restore voting rights to felons who have completed their prison sentences, Sen. Bernie Sanders said people convicted of felonies should never lose access to the ballot box in the first place.
At a town hall meeting in Muscatine’s West Middle School gymnasium Saturday, the Vermont senator was asked whether the imprisoned should have the right to vote. Only his home state and Maine allow felons to vote from behind bars.
“I think that is absolutely the direction we should go,” he said.
Of course you do, Bern.
You just want to win.
While most states disenfranchise felons, Sanders said the convicted still have a right to participate in elections.
“In my state, what we do is separate. You’re paying a price, you committed a crime, you’re in jail. That’s bad,” he said. “But you’re still living in American society and you have a right to vote. I believe in that, yes, I do.”
Listen – I think that some “felons” are good people that made bad choices. Especially when it comes to non-violent drug consumption crimes. People make stupid mistakes.
But when it comes to violent felons?
Yeah. Can you imagine a man who say… raped your daughter, having a choice as to who our next President is?
Yeah, I don’t think so.
