I’ve been off the air since Thursday, after coming down with some sort of flu-y, funky illness that’s had me mostly in bed since Thursday afternoon. Now that I’m feeling better, I’m starting to catch up on the news again, and questioning whether it’s actually healthier to have the flu than it is to see videos of Alexandria Ocasio Cortez.
I’m seriously questioning this.
One thing I’ve spent a lot of time doing over the past four days is crying. Most of that is hormonal, I think. I’ve cried over literally everything I’ve seen online or watched on TV. I cried at chick flicks I watched on Netflix. I cried at dog videos on YouTube. I cried at a video Daisy posted on Facebook about a therapy horse.
And then when I saw this story? I sobbed and sobbed and sobbed. I want to put this dear, precious, sweet man in my pocket.
It’s the story of an 82 year old man who was playing in a park near his home in the UK in 1944 with some of his buddies, when a US bomber jet carrying 10 airmen crashed. Tony Foulds saw the plane coming down, thought the pilot was waving at him, and waved back, before realizing that they were waving for him and his friends to get out of the way. All ten airmen perished. Ever since, Tony has cared for the memorial site, visiting every day and maintaining the area.
A BBC reporter met Tony one day and heard his story, it went viral, and it culminated with this amazing tribute. You have to watch this, you guys. It’s AMAZING.
There’s so much just awful crap in the news right now – I think we ALL need this kind of story. I hope you love it as much as I did!
