There are a lot of “anti-this” or “pro-that” movements out there, but this is a first for me. I didn’t know this existed…until now.
Ever heard of the “anti-natalist” movement? It’s basically a bunch of people who believe that having children is “morally bad.” According to the almighty Wikipedia:
Antinatalism, or anti–natalism, is a philosophical position that assigns a negative value to birth. Antinatalists argue that people should abstain from procreation because it is morally bad (some also recognize the procreation of other sentient beings as morally bad).
If having babies is morally bad, then these people must believe that aborting babies is morally good. Right?
Everything about this is twisted.
All that being said, there’s a dude out there who plans on suing his parents. You know. For having him without his consent. He did NOT give his parents permission to pro-create, and he certainly didn’t give his mother permission to birth him!
Raphael Samuel said he had a ‘great relationship’ with his parents but has compared having children to ‘kidnapping and slavery’.
The 27-year-old from Mumbai is an ‘anti-natalist’ who believes it is wrong to put an unwilling child through the ‘rigmarole’ of life for the pleasure of its parents.
The anti-natalist movement is gaining traction in India as younger people resist social pressure to have children.
When I first started reading this story, I assumed he had a terrible relationship with his parents. I was surprised to see that he actually claims to have a “great” relationship. He says his life has been “amazing,” actually. However, he believes his parents were selfish to have him, so he’s gotta do what he’s gotta do.
“I love my parents, and we have a great relationship, but they had me for their joy and their pleasure,” he explained, according to The Print.
“My life has been amazing, but I don’t see why I should put another life through the rigamarole of school and finding a career, especially when they didn’t ask to exist,” he continued.
But how…I just….how can you….I give. This is so dumb. It’s IMPOSSIBLE to get your future child’s “permission” before conceiving them.
Samuel runs a Facebook page called Nihilanand, which has hundreds of followers, on which he regularly posts anti-natalist material.
One image is captioned ‘parents are hypocrites’, with the text saying: ‘A good parent puts the child above is wants and needs… but the child itself is a want of the parent’.
Right. How SELFISH is it for humans to go by their instincts and create a loving family? HOW DARE THEY.
People of that mindset completely ignore human nature. We were CREATED to have andsss enjoy families and the people around us.
A similar meme posted on the Facebook page reads: ‘If parents truly know what is good for their children… why did they have them?’
Another asks: ‘Isn’t forcing a child into this world and then forcing it to have a career kidnapping and slavery?’.
Many of those involved in the anti-natalist are avid environmentalists who believe it’s morally wrong to have children, because it puts a strain on the planet’s resources.
But there you go. These people walk among us.
