Chuck Schumer Calls President Trump’s Shutdown Proposal A ‘Hostage Taking’

On Saturday, President Trump formally announced a new shutdown proposal: A temporary DACA/TPS deal in exchange for border wall funding.

Pelosi dismissed it as a “non-starter” before he even made the formal announcement.

Meanwhile, Schumer is pretending to be insulted. He straight up called Trump’s proposal a “hostage-taking.”

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said that Trump offering some protections for DACA and TPS recipients “in exchange for the wall is not a compromise but more hostage taking.”

Trump “keeps putting forward one-sided and ineffective remedies. There’s only way out: open up the government, Mr. President, and then Democrats and Republicans can have a civil discussion and come up with bipartisan solutions,” Schumer added.

No. Trump cannot agree to opening the government and moving the border wall funding discussion to another time, because that time will NEVER come. This is the ONLY way Trump can force lawmakers to address it.

Trump offered something reasonable, and they’re shaking their heads in defiance. Now what?
