The December jobs report is in, and President Trump is stoked.
GREAT JOBS NUMBERS JUST ANNOUNCED!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 4, 2019
He has reason to be stoked. There are some super awesome nuggets in there that deserve to be in the spotlight.
First up, you should know that the year ended with record employment– 156,945,000. The unemployment rate is remaining steady under 4 percent.
The number of employed Americans has now set a 14th record under Trump:
When Trump became president in January 2017, 152,076,000 Americans were employed. Last month, that number grew to a record 156,945,000, a gain of 4,869,000 in two years.
Now for some less than good news. We have to keep this real, after all:
At the same time, the number of unemployed Americans increased by 276,000 last month, to 6,294,000, as more people were actively looking for work but had not found a job.
One reason the jobless rate went up is that more people got back into the labor force to look for work, for a fourth straight month pic.twitter.com/AvjOd04s5R

Back to more good news: The economy added 312,000 jobs in December, which was WAY better than expected.
And wait. MORE good news:
In another positive sign, the labor force participation rate increased two-tenths of a point to 63.1 percent, the highest it’s been since Trump took office.
Additionally, the Hispanic unemployment rate hit an all-time low again– 4.4 percent. (It matched that record once already in October. But STILL. That’s some good stuff.)
Another MASSIVE jobs report:
*312,000 new jobs in December
*3.9% unemployment
*Average hourly wages are UP 3.2%@realDonaldTrump’s policies are working for America’s workers!https://t.co/4x3AMobakn— Ronna McDaniel (@GOPChairwoman) January 4, 2019
The jobs report, holy cow. The expected new jobs added for December was 176K. The reality? 312K. Enormous.
