The NFL has boycotters on both sides. There are people who are upset that the NFL didn’t take a hard stance against NFL players who constantly knelt on field, and there are people who are upset that the NFL didn’t go far enough in supporting those players.
People are mad for polar opposite reasons.
The kneeling drama has been relatively non-existent this year, which is nice. I mean, I hear the Miami Dolphins have some kneeling players, but they’re a garbage team anyway, so who’s really shocked?
I went to one NFL game this year– the Pats vs. Jags– and it was one of the most patriotic events I’ve been to in a long time. They constantly honored veterans and police officers, and the people in the stadium were SO feeling it. It was full ‘MERICA all up in there.
Just saying.
Still, because there are people on both sides of the aisle who are still unhappy, they’re having trouble finding celebrities to participate in the Super Bowl Half Time Show alongside Maroon 5. The band has reportedly reached out to “half a dozen” stars, but none of them want anything to do with the show, because #injustice or something.
Guess who’s taking partial credit for that. Amy Schumer. You see, she started it by pledging to NOT participate in any Super Bowl commercials this time around. (At least, this is what she’s telling herself.)
“I have done 2 Super Bowl commercials in the last couple years and I’m so stupid thinking my opinion would matter right? Well guess what? I may have made a difference,” she said. “No one is stepping up to perform.”
I don’t even remember any of her Super Bowl commercials, so they must’ve been kind of dumb anyway.
I’d also like to point out that she called on Maroon 5 to back out, and they refused. So…her opinion really DIDN’T matter much there, did it?
“Maybe they wouldn’t have anyway. But at least I tried to help out and do what other people are too greedy or afraid to. Would you do that to stand up for people of color?” she asked.
Oh. So if you participate in the half time show, you’re automatically admitting that you don’t want to stand up for black people? Got it.
“I may have made an impact. You can write about sports and even be the best at it but what have you done to help the marginalized or under represented?” she continued. “I will continue to do everything I can. Even with all the snide little white sports writer making cutting remarks.”
So there you have it. Amy Schumer is a hero in her own mind. She’s single-handedly convincing people not to participate in the half time show…by implying that they’re raging racists if they do.
