Buzzfeed -for reasons I just don’t understand – decided to come for Smokey the Bear by tweeting this now deleted tweet:
“Most experts now agree that a decades-long policy of suppressing fires in forests, a campaign fronted by Smokey Bear, was a bad idea,” the tweet said. “At best, it damaged ecosystems that need to burn from time to time. At worst, it created a tinderbox of unnaturally dense vegetation.”
Um… not one person at Buzzfeed has ever been camping, huh?
Smokey doesn’t advocate for naturally occurring wildfire suppression. Smokey advocated for preventing human-caused forest fires.
You know, the fires that start by leaving your campfire burning or throwing cigarette butts out of car windows.
IF YOU DO NOT KNOW THE DIFFERENCE, YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO BUSINESS TALKING ABOUT FIRE PREVENTION AND MITIGATION, BUZZFED.
According to Daily Wire:
The Buzzfeed tweet was part of a thread discussing the recent forest fires in California. After deleting the tweet, Buzzfeed put up an explanation.
“We’ve deleted this tweet. Smokey Bear fronts a campaign for wildfire prevention, not wildfire suppression,” the new tweet read.
We’ve deleted this tweet. Smokey Bear fronts a campaign for wildfire prevention, not wildfire suppression.

DUMB.
The slogan was “Only you can prevent forest fires”. That should have been a hint.

Top tip, hire editors that are older than 21. Starting to look more and more like a parody account.

Or… you know. Someone who’s been outside.
