Stacey Abrams is the wildly liberal gubernatorial candidate in Georgia. She has a fighting chance of winning, which is sucktastic.
Can you imagine if she wins and Gillum wins in Florida?
I don’t even want to think about it. No no no. We cannot allow that to happen. Get it together, Georgia.
There are many reasons to NOT vote for Abrams, but this is a big one: She doesn’t respect the Second Amendment. She’s one of those people who actually TRIED to take guns away from law-abiding gun owners.
“When you were a state lawmaker in 2016, you co-sponsored a bill that would have allowed Georgia state authorities to take away so-called assault weapons from current gun owners,” Jake Tapper said. “Most similar bans would grandfather in existing weapons of that sort, semiautomatic rifles that are called assault weapons. So, is that your current position, that law-abiding gun owners in Georgia should have to give up those weapons, if authorities deem it necessary?”
Watch out! Here comes Dodge-y McGee!
“In the state of Georgia, you introduce legislation to start conversations,” Abrams said. “I am happy to work with the legislature to figure out how we make an assault weapons ban work.”
In other words, you introduced legislation to start a conversation about taking guns away from law-abiding citizens. You don’t want to DO it. You just want to TALK about it. Is that right?
“AR-15s are not necessary on our streets,” she continued.
Who wants to bet she doesn’t know ONE THING about AR-15s? ANYWAY. Answer the question Abrams. Do you believe the people of Georgia should give up their weapons if authorities say so?
Tapper pushed her.
“Well, just to be clear, you were one of six co-sponsors of this bill, House Bill 731, introduced January 11, 2016, not that long ago,” Tapper said. “Your co-sponsor told reporters the law — quote — ‘would require gun owners of these particular models to turn their guns in.'”
She still wouldn’t answer the question.
“And, again, my point is this: the legislation introduced was the beginning of a conversation,” Abrams said. “I am absolutely certain that, were we to pass this in Georgia, we would have a conversation about grandfathering in, about whether or not people would turn their guns in, whether there would be buybacks. There are a number of approaches to take to accomplish this goal.”
IS THAT YOUR CURRENT POSITION? YES OR NO.
“Well, just to be clear here, though — I’m just trying to understand,” Tapper said. “So you don’t support the actual legislation; you just support having a conversation about it?”
“No, what I have said is, legislation in the state legislature is about starting the conversation,” Abrams said.
So you want to do MORE than just talk about it?
“I believe that we have to ban assault weapons in the state of Georgia,” Abrams finally said.
THERE IT IS! She believes the government has the authority to tell law-abiding gun owners what they can and cannot own. She believes citizens should have to turn in their guns if the government deems it necessary to do so.
Wake up, Georgia. Seriously.
