This is right up there with Kamala Harris’ bright idea to establish a basic universal income.
Presidential hopeful (let’s be real, he TOTALLY wants to be POTUS) Cory Booker– also known as Spartacus– would like to end “generational poverty” by giving low-income kids “free” cash in the form of “nest egg payments.”
Yes– it’s as dumb as it sounds!
Under the plan, low-income children would each get a $1,000 grant when they are born. Money could grow in government-managed accounts, with annual deposits of up to $2,000, on an income-based sliding scale. The funds couldn’t be withdrawn until age 18.
They could only be spent on ‘asset-building’ purchases like a home or school costs. In that sense, the funds could replicate advantages some wealthier children have, such as being able to rely on parents for help with a down-payment or tuition.
This is just out of control. It isn’t the government’s job to ensure that we’re all making the same amount of money or all being born into affluent families. That isn’t realistic. You can’t control who’s born into what family. You can’t control the decisions every individual makes. All of that aside, do you know how much this would cost? I don’t even want to think about it. That’s the thing about so many of the left’s “compassionate” proposals. A lot of people don’t realize that the government doesn’t just *poof* generate its own income. It’s on us. We’re paying for everything. Sorry, but I don’t want my taxes raised to pay for OTHER kids’ futures when I’ll have my OWN kids to worry about. That’s not me being selfish. That’s me being realistic.
Let us help people on our own. I don’t need the government to help low-income kids for me. I don’t trust the government to do it, quite frankly. It can’t do anything right.
