We frequently joke about how the Democratic Party is the party of “free stuff.” It’s a joke, because nothing is actually free. Their entitlement programs are incredibly expensive and put an excessive burden on American taxpayers. However, they’ve successfully programmed low-fos to believe that the government generates its own revenue. Not so. The government TAKES money from taxpayers.
The Bernies of the world don’t seem to understand that. The more “free” stuff they want to “give away,” the more it’s going to cost US.
Sadly, at this point, Democrats are actually embracing the idea of handing out “free cash.” I am not making this up. Flaming lib Sen. Kamala Harris wants to establish a “universal” income. It’s been dubbed the “Livable Income for Families Today (LIFT) Act.”
“We should put money back into the pockets of American families to address rising costs of childcare, housing, tuition, and other expenses,” Harris explained. “Our tax code should reflect our values and instead of more tax breaks for the top one percent and corporations, we should be lifting up millions of American families.”
She boasts that families making under $100,000 a year could receive anywhere from $500 to $6,000 a year, while people making less than $50,000 could receive $250 a month. You know. Just because. Buy yourself something nice!
A few “progressive” places have tried establishing a universal basic income. Finland did. Stockton, California is in the process of trying it (100 residents will receive $500 a month for a year and a half for no apparent reason), and it’s expected to cost $900,000. Again, that’s only for 100 people. For crying out loud, Ontario tried this “experiment” with 4,000 low-income participants, but officials decided to stop the program because it became “expensive and unsustainable.”
How much would Harris’ plan cost? GLAD YOU ASKED. Daily Wire did the math.
The cost for the California program is $900,000. But let’s work our own math, albeit crude. There are roughly 126 million households in the U.S., according to Statista. The Washington Post reports that 75% of U.S. households make less than $100,000 annually.
So, with just those two numbers gleaned from the interwebs, that means roughly 94 million households make less that $100,000. The cost for Harris’ LIFT plan — were all to receive $6,000 a year — would be just $564,000,000,000. That’s $564 billion.
We’re just scratching the surface here, people.
There’s NO SUCH THING as free.
