Don’t panic quite yet- he’s not turning against the NRA. He just doesn’t have the time right now.
PHEW.
I REALLY didn’t want to have to be angry at him.
“Blue Bloods” star Tom Selleck has reportedly resigned from the National Rifle Association’s board of directors.
Selleck, 73, has been a member of the NRA since he was 8 years old, The Trace, a non-profit website covering gun violence in America, reported Tuesday. He also received the most votes in the board’s election in 2017. A spokeswoman said he resigned because of time commitments.
Since he was 8?! Talk about Lifetime Membership!!!
Selleck, an avid gun collector, has donated a few rifles and revolvers from his movies to the NRA’s National Firearms Museum.
Which is AWESOME.
Nothing irks me more than actors who make MILLIONS off of films that glorify guns – and then turn around and complain about guns.
Selleck obviously didn’t play that game.
Annette Wolf, the actor’s publicist, told The Trace that Selleck stepped down from the board “due to his work schedule,” but noted that he was never truly “active on the board.”
Selleck is still an NRA member, Wolf added.
That’s not uncommon. Tom Selleck is a huge celebrity, and his membership on the board was more of a celebrity endorsement than a real time commitment.
But then… why’d he have to quit?
I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt on this one. If this WERE an image thing, libs would never forgive his long-standing involvement with the so-called “murderers” and conservatives would resent the fact that he abandoned them.
So “career” wise, it wouldn’t really be a great move anyway.
Unless, of course, he started actively speaking out AGAINST the NRA – which I just don’t see happening.
At least… I hope not.
