Two very prominent memorial services took place this weekend.
Both of them turned into Trump-Hate Fests.
As I mentioned, Al Sharpton took the opportunity to turn Aretha Franklin’s memorial into a political sh*tstorm, while Meghan McCain took some not-so-subtle jabs at Trump while eulogizing her late father.
While there was plenty more where that came from, I think we can agree those two stand out as the most prominent “disses.”
While I expected Sharpton to do something like this, (the man has always been an opportunist – he wouldn’t let a national platform go to waste, even if it IS a funeral.) I was a bit more surprised by Meghan’s outburst.
Why make this celebration of your father’s life about Trump? He’s not there… so just keep him out of it, you know?
I think she’s sad and angry… and while I think it’s unfortunate that she used her father’s service to lash out at Trump, I’m not going to judge her too much for it. She’s hurting.
At one point, Meghan said “The America of John McCain has no need to be made great again because America was always great.”
This was seen as a direct jab at Trump’s “MAGA” slogan.
Later that evening, Trump replied to the jab in what was actually a measured response for him:
MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

Yup. He did that.
Listen, personally, I think it would have been better if he just kept his mouth ENTIRELY shut about this one. Sit this one out, you know?
But compared to what he COULD have said… this was fine. This was measured.
I’m glad he didn’t comment directly about Meghan. I would have had a pretty hard time defending that right about now.
