Before I start- Let me say this. I like Meghan. I think she’s done an EXCELLENT job on ‘The View,’ and other than her obvious disdain for Trump, (which I think may root in loyalty to her father) I agree with a lot of what she says.
I REALLY feel for her right now. I’m really close to my dad and the idea of losing him like that… well I can’t even think about it. A post I wrote about a VILE attack on her literally made me cry.
That all being said… Meghan used her speech at her father’s service today to rip on President Trump… and I think that’s really unfortunate.
A memorial is a time to celebrate someone’s life… not stew in anger and resentment for others.
According to Fox News:
Meghan McCain took a number of swipes at President Trump on Saturday in a eulogy for her father John McCain — who sparred with Trump on a number of occasions before his death last week of brain cancer.
‘The America of John McCain has no need to be made great again because America was always great,’ she said, in what appeared to a reference to Trump’s presidential campaign slogan: “Make America Great Again.”
She’s not wrong. America HAS always been great – I think the slogan was meant economically – and yes, our economy needed a boost.
But again… why not focus on your father’s positive legacy as opposed to a petty feud?
She also said that her father’s passing represented the passing of “American greatness. The real thing, not cheap rhetoric from men who will never come near the sacrifice he gave so willingly, nor the opportunistic appropriation of those who lived lives of comfort and privilege while he suffered and served.”
