Vermont’s Trans Candidate For Governor Admits He Doesn’t Know What Socialism Is

A few days ago, Christine Hallquist, a transgender female candidate, won the Democratic primary for governor of Vermont. This probably goes without saying, but Hallquist is running on a platform of free health care, free college and free stuff in general, because of course.

I was kind of disturbed by Hallquist’s main desire. He (I’m sorry, but he’s a biological man and SOUNDS like a man, as you’ll soon hear) wants to be known as “the first trans candidate.” That’s right. He doesn’t want to be known for having the best ideas or leadership skills. He wants to be known for being a man who thinks he’s a woman. I think he thinks that qualifies him, and that’s what’s troubling. If he stood up and espoused brilliant conservative ideals, I’d TOTALLY hear him out. But he’s touting a garbage platform and acting like his status as a trans-woman qualifies him, and that’s annoying.

Speaking of annoying, Hallquist recently appeared on CNN and admitted that he had no idea what socialism is.

“Well, you know, I’m not a person that’s big on labels because I’ve found labels are used to separate people,” Hallquist said. “You know, I look at the platform of a living wage and health care for all–that’s called civilized society. I don’t even know how that became socialism or Republican or Democrat; let’s be a civilized society.”

“Do you support capitalism?”CNN host John Berman asked.

“Obviously the long history of measuring ourselves by increasing gross domestic product is a flawed measure, because that just encourages consumption, and we can see what consumption is doing to our world,” Hallquist said.

He stuck to the “labels” trail, which is amusing because he already labeled himself as wanting to be the first TRANS candidate.

“Again, I know you don’t like labels, and this poll didn’t ask people to choose between capitalism and socialism, but when faced with the choice between the two, it does sound like you look more favorably–again, labels you have an issue with–on the ideas behind socialism,” Berman said.

Right? Well, ugh, wait. What’s socialism again? LOLZ.

“Well, yes, and I’m not sure I even know what socialism is,” Hallquist said. “So I just don’t have the background to answer that question.”

Um. You’re running in Vermont, the LAND of Bernie Sanders. Are you dumb? Did you really decide to run without brushing up on the basics of socialism and capitalism? That’s just embarrassing.
