Transgender Candidate Wins The Democratic Primary For Governor Of Vermont

Well, it’s Vermont so…

Christine Hallquist, a transgender female candidate, won the Democratic primary for governor of Vermont. Hallquist beat out Brenda Siegel and James Ehlers. He (I’m sorry, but Hallquist is, in fact, a biological man) is running on a platform of free health care and free college, because of course.

Hallquist, a former CEO of the Vermont Electric Cooperative, made no bones about the fact she wanted a place in the history books during the campaign.

“That’s how I want to be known in Vermont,” Hallquist, 62, told The Associated Press in an interview at her Burlington offices. “Nationally, I want to be known as the first trans candidate.”

I’m sorry (no I’m not), but that’s lame. What ever happened to wanting to be known for having solid principles and governing well? This just as annoying as Hillary desperately wanting to be known as the first female president. What about your IDEAS and LEADERSHIP skills?

But Hallquist faces long odds in November. No sitting governor has been defeated in Vermont since 1962, and Scott’s victory would continue Republicans’ surprisingly strong hold on governorships in highly progressive New England. The GOP currently holds the governorships of four out of six states in the region, including Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.

We’ll see what happens. But man, Vermont Dems are WACK.
