Out of all the “Friends” cast, Matthew Perry has seemingly chosen the bumpiest road once the show ended.
According to this:
The 48-year-old actor is an outspoken addiction recovery advocate after struggling with addictions to alcohol and several prescription drugs during his time on Friends.
In 1997 he completed a 28-day program for Vicodin addiction, later telling Larry King that he took the painkiller ‘mostly just to not drink as much as I was.’
In 2001 he entered a rehab to recover from his use of Vicodin, methadone, amphetamines, and alcohol.
Yeah, it hasn’t all been pretty for him. At one point making A MILLION DOLLARS per episode, Perry is a clear example that money can’t buy you everything and that fame isn’t always pretty.
While there’s no telling if this medical emergency is at all related to his past addiction struggles, Matthew was rushed to the hospital today for emergency intervention.
According to Daily Mail:
Matthew Perry has undergone surgery to repair a gastrointestinal perforation.
A rep for the Friends star confirmed on Tuesday that he was taken to an LA hospital for the procedure.
‘He is grateful for the concern and asks for continued privacy as he heals,’ he said in a statement.
Gastrointestinal perforation, while also known as ruptured bowel, can occur along any point in the wall of the gastrointestinal tract, including the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, and large intestine.
While we don’t know much about what caused his gastrointestinal perforation, causes can include traumas from knife wounds or swallowing sharp objects, cancers, ulcers, infections, or medical procedures gone wrong.
Untreated, the condition can lead to sepsis and can be fatal.
We wish Matthew a swift and painless recovery.
