Confession: I listen to Rush Limbaugh almost every single day, at least in the background. Like I’ve mentioned before, I’m a Rush Baby. Even though my dad wasn’t SUPER political back in the day, he listened to Rush waaaaaay back then, so I kind of grew up hearing him in the background of my life. To top it all off, during my senior seminar for journalism in college, my professors went through my old tweets and confronted me for “offending” them. I guess at some point, I tweeted that I learned more from Rush Limbaugh than any of my college professors, and they were NOT happy about that.
The truth hurts. I guess it really damaged their ego, because Rush is everything they hate. He didn’t go to college, and he’s a successful, principled conservative. He shouldn’t be anywhere NEAR their “level,” but he is. He surpasses their level 12 times over.
I’m forever grateful for Rush.
So I was casually listening yesterday and got up to make a coffee. When I came back to my desk, I heard Trump. Yep. Trump called to congratulate Rush on the 30th anniversary of his show, which truly is a monumental feat.
Rush seemed genuinely surprised.
“So, Rush, I just wanted to congratulate you on 30 years. This is your favorite president, and I think you are fantastic,” Trump said. “I heard about it, and today’s the big day, 30 years. I wanted to call personally and congratulate you.”
“I am floored. I… I thought there was nothing anybody could do to surprise me today. I’ve been preparing for anything. Mr. President,” Rush said.
They had *quite* the conversation, and it was super fun to listen to. You can read the entire transcript here.
Did you hear the end part?
“So I just want to congratulate you,” Trump said. “Thirty years of… Just do it for another 30 years. After that, you can take it easy, okay?”
“I will do that. Just that,” Rush said. “I will stay around as long as you do.”
“Okay. You have a deal,” Trump said.
“Thank you, Mr. President,” Rush replied.
“And thank you very much, Rush. So important what you do,” Trump concluded. “Thank you.”
So cool!
Here’s to another 30, Rush! 😉
