CNN’s Chris Cillizza wrote a piece about Trump’s potential SCOTUS nominee, opining that it’ll be Amy Coney Barrett, and he teased his piece on Twitter like this:
If you believe Trump makes decisions based on image and appearance (and he does), then here’s the next Supreme Court Justicehttps://t.co/GRVrVkrmJF
— Chris Cillizza (@CillizzaCNN) July 2, 2018
Now, if you read the piece, he lays out a whole big argument about why he thinks Trump will pick Amy Coney Barrett, and I don’t think he’s really that far off base. Trump idolaters might take issue with it, but anyone who’s honest about Trump and the way he makes decisions will see some truth in it. Not that I necessarily think Coney Barrett is a lock. I don’t. I genuinely have no idea who’s gonna get the nod.
But you guys, the reaction? It’s AWESOME. He’s being absolutely slaughtered for being sexist. BEHOLD:
Coney Barrett graduated from a prestigious law school, was executive editor of law review, clerked on the DC Circuit and the Supreme Court. You reduced her to her looks. Disgraceful. https://t.co/u1uevAztqJ

Cillizza responded to that one:
Not at all the point. As I make clear in the piece: This is not about attractiveness. This is about whether or not someone fits Trump’s idea of what a Supreme Court justice should look like. https://t.co/acSWNOCdeO

Come on, man. You wrote a clickbaity article with a clickbaity headline, and when you posted it you knew her photo would would be in the card. This is the natural Twitter reaction to what you did. You know how this works.

“Reliably conservative” is probably the most important reason to appoint her but you put her gender, her motherhood, her age ahead of her qualifications. YOU did that Chris. #Projecting

I have no idea what the political affiliations are of the people who are calling him out. It doesn’t even really matter. If they’re conservatives, they’re deliciously using liberal tactics to beat him down. If they’re liberals, they’re eating their own. Regardless, it’s glorious. Here’s another:
Holy fuck nuggets. Are you totally going with ‘he picked her because she is generally attractive’? Seriously? This is how you are going to attack the nomination?
— Mortis (@WitchyDruss) July 2, 2018
Obviously, I’m stealing “f*ck nuggets.”
Leftists love to throw down sexism and racism and homophobia and bigotry and all of those cards at conservatives whenever they possibly can. They do to the point of absurdity. And that’s when conservatives figure out that they can do it right back, and we have glorious twitter strings like this.
Thank you, Chris Cillizza, for being an unwitting dufus. You’ve made my evening. 🙂
