LeBron James Doesn’t Understand How Being a SAHM Works

I think Mr. James has been hit in the head with a basketball one too many times. Clips have surfaced of the athlete making some delulu comments about stay-at-home women, and I have some thoughts.

As a stay-at-home mom (SAHM) myself, this is news to me. I was unaware that I was supposed to be able to sit on the couch every day and do nothing, and I would like to know who I am supposed to sue at this point.

But in all seriousness, anyone who has ever cared for children knows being a SAHM is a very active job that rarely involves sitting on the couch. I’m not trying to be dramatic when I say this, but I’ve never been busier in my entire life than I am now. Being a SAHM is harder than any of the jobs I did outside of the home, hands down. But the tradeoff is I’ve also never been more fulfilled or happy in my life.

I will always be grateful to my husband for allowing me to do this job, because there is nothing more important than this. It saddens me that LeBron has reduced the role of a stay-at-home wife or mom to something equivalent to being lazy. Even if a woman doesn’t have children, the reality of the situation is there is a ton of work that goes into keeping a home—especially for those of us who aren’t millionaires.

Being a SAHM should be celebrated, not belittled. LeBron could have simply said “I prefer my wife to work outside of the home” and ended it with that. There was no need to liken a housewife to a lazy mooch.
