Target is– hands down– my go-to store. I’m obsessed. I didn’t used to be so addicted, but they recently upped their clothing game, so now there’s even MORE temptation. It’s awful (for my wallet). I swear. These days, I can’t get out of there for less than 100 bucks. (At least, that’s what it FEELS like.) I’ll grab some shoes I don’t need. $1.50 socks. A cute set of $7.99 earrings. A BarkBox toy for my dog. Some bananas. Coffee creamer. A romper I’ll never wear. A new nail polish color. A kooky mug. Seasonal serving trays. Candles. A mini fake desk plant. Before I know it, $100. And that’s just on random stuff. There’s a whole lot of stuff I’d like to buy– stuff that’s much more expensive– but I don’t allow myself to even GO there. I have SOME discipline, after all.
There aren’t many people who don’t love Target. That’s why I can’t figure out why this is news.
Everyone’s freaking out, because Beyoncé recently shopped at Target.
But this is what REALLY gets me. Look at Daily Mail’s headline:
Wait wait wait. Since when is Target a discount store??? My bank statement most DEFINITELY suggests otherwise.
It’s not just in the headline either. Daily Mail describes Target as a “discount” store right in the beginning of the article.
But, despite her mass fortune, Beyonce proved she’s still got an eye for a bargain as she was spotted wheeling her trolley around discount store Target in Los Angeles over the weekend.
I don’t know if they just really don’t know, or if this is part of their desperate attempt to make Beyoncé seem more relatable. They even called this a “humble outing.” And I’m just over here at my local Target, constantly putting things back on shelves because SINCE WHEN IS TARGET A HUMBLE, SUPER CHEAP OUTING?
The humble outing came just over a week after Blue proved she knows a thing or two about the art world as she bid on very expensive pieces during the live auction for the second annual Wearable Art Gala at WACO Theatre Center in Los Angeles.
See? She shops at SUPER CHEAPO DISCOUNT stores JUST LIKE YOU!
I’m not mad or offended. I’m perplexed. Beyoncé shopping at Target– that doesn’t make her more relatable. Not to me, anyway. She could basically buy the entire store without a blink. I seriously doubt she’s “shopping on a budget.” Her 6-year-old daughter recently bid $19,000 on a piece of art. Please.
Oh yeah. That reminds me. Daily Mail also referred to Target as a “budget” store. I’m not saying they don’t have good deals here and there, but COME ON.
Of course, it isn’t the first time the superstar has been spotted splashing the cash at the budget store, as she was pictured perusing the aisles once again in December, when she was seemingly on the lookout for some Christmas bargains.
The mother-of-three – whose husband Jay-Z has an estimated net worth of $900 million – was again in the company of her adorable daughter, though she was also joined by her mother Tina Knowles.
To be fair, Daily Mail wasn’t the only news outlet to describe Bey’s outing as a humbling, cheap phenomenon. Check out Hollywood Life’s take:
The 36-year-old mom was spotted inside a big box store in Los Angeles over the weekend, according to the Daily Mail. Along with her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, 6, Beyonce was just like any other suburban mom on a budget. Bey, estimated to be worth $500 million, kept a low profile while filling up her cart with goods. No word if she was stocking up for her OTR II tour with hubby JAY-Z or just picking up some groceries for the home.
She’s “just like any other suburban mom on a budget.”
It’s amazing how disconnected these people are to ACTUAL suburban moms on budgets. They really think Target is a legit discount store.
I’ll leave you with this snippet from TheCut:
Beyoncé may be the highest-paid woman in music, but even she is not immune to the sweet, sweet siren song of stylish yet low-priced merchandise.
…
Beyoncé: She’s just like us, only much, much better.
Annnnnnnd my disdain for the Beyoncé worshippers continues to grow…
