Rep. Trey Gowdy On Why He’s Leaving Congress: ‘I Like Jobs Where Facts Matter’

A few months ago, Rep. Trey Gowdy made a depressing announcement. He’s leaving politics.

I can’t say I blame him. It’s a nasty business.

He appeared on CNN this morning and elaborated a bit further on his departure. He was ridiculously honest and said that he like jobs where “facts matter.”

“I like jobs where facts matter. I like jobs where fairness matters. I like jobs where, frankly, where the process matters. It’s not just about winning and it’s not just about reaching a result,” Gowdy told CNN’s Alisyn Camerota.

Boom. He nailed it. That’s the problem. That’s what’s wrong with Congress. It’s not about doing the best thing. It’s about advancing agendas, even if those agendas SUCK.

“So facts don’t matter in Congress?” Camerota asked.

Is that a serious question? COME ON. Look Maxine Waters in the eye. Does that look like a woman who cares about facts?

“I think what matters in Congress is finding a group and then validating or ratifying what they already believe,” Gowdy continued. “I like the art of persuasion. I like finding 12 people who have not already made up their minds and then may (if) the facts prevail. That’s not where we are in politics. So maybe we’ll get back there.”

He’s sick of the screaming back and forth. Far too many lawmakers can’t be swayed by logical arguments. (I’m talking Democrats AND Republicans *coughMcCainandJeffFlakecoughcough*.) They have their agenda, and the facts don’t matter. The agenda matters. Just look at how Democrats handled the entire DACA situation.

“I like it when facts matter, and I don’t see that in our current modern political environment,” he added.

As bummed as I am that he’s leaving, I can’t say that I blame him.

On another note, Gowdy said President Trump SHOULD speak to Mueller.

“If you have nothing to hide … sit down and tell him what you know,” Gowdy said.
